Gold Seal
An integral part of training for a pilot certificate is studying the academic side of flying which will be tested on both the written test and oral portion of the practical test. While there are many different ways to study the pilot ground school including in-person classes, books and online courses, we have chosen one that works best for our program. Gold Seal ground school is an online program that is very effective at teaching the material in a way that promotes understanding rather than just rote memorization. It also allows us to work with you to assign lessons and see your progress and quiz scores to help us tailor the training to your needs. If you are training toward a pilot rating we require that you purchase a subscription to Gold Seal which you can do with the link below. Foreflight
Another integral part of flying in the modern world is an EFB (Electronic Flight Bag). Although there are many different ones available, ForeFlight has become the gold standard and is by far the most popular EFB among professional pilots today. Because of that, ForeFlight is what we use and teach and we do require it for anyone training toward a pilot certificate. (If you are doing a flight review or an added rating we recommend it, but do not require it.) It is only available on Apple devices, so you will need an iPad. You can run ForeFlight on up to two iPads and one iPhone with one subscription. The basic level subscription is sufficient. We are often asked what iPad to purchase. We recommend either a mini or an 11”. A 12.9 is just too big for the cockpit. It is important to get a cell service capable iPad. A wifi only does not have the correct GPS capability. You do not necessarily need to have the cell service enabled, it just needs to have the hardware. We recommend a 512 GB capacity if you want to store the entire USA data on the device, but you can get by with a 256 GB if you are not using it for a lot of other tasks.
